Five Ways to Boost Fertility

If you are ready to start planning a family, even seemingly small stressors can throw off your body and hinder your efforts at trying to conceive. To move help move things along, there are some steps you can take to boost your fertility and improve your chances of conceiving faster.

Here are some helpful tips you should consider to improve your fertility:

  1. Nourish your body: Having a healthy diet is always a good idea, but it is particularly crucial if you are trying to conceive. Your diet should be rich in protein, iron, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D since deficiencies in any of these crucial nutrients are often linked to longer menstrual cycles, which means less frequent ovulation, and a higher risk of early miscarriage. Consult with your doctor to find out if you should be taking a daily multi-vitamin supplement.
  2. Think about what you drink: Research has linked alcohol consumption with a decreased ability to get pregnant and, of course, it can also harm a developing fetus. Additionally, alcohol alters a woman’s estrogen levels, which could interfere with egg implantation. A glass of wine now and then is unlikely to have any real impact on your ability to conceive, so just remember not to excessively drink. If caffeinated beverages are what you crave, you should also consider cutting back since this could affect your hormone levels.
  3. Understand your cycle: The average menstrual cycle generally lasts about 21 to 35 days, so if you notice yours is particularly long, it is safe to assume you are ovulating less often. In this case, you should consider visiting a fertility clinic or your first consult with your ob-gyn. With some help, you will be able to find your fertile window, during which you should regularly have intercourse for the best chances at conceiving.
  4. Get busy: The demands of life can affect a person’s sex drive, but if you want to conceive, you need to get busy in the bedroom more often. Some research also shows that women who have sex with more regularity also have more predictable menstrual cycles. However, since scheduling sex can take the joy out of it, try to make love every few days throughout the month rather than only planning it around your fertility window.
  5. Do not let your partner forget his health: Smoking, drinking alcohol, and having a poor diet can all contribute to lower sperm production, so your partner should not neglect his health either. You are in this together, so maintain your health together and you will have a better chance of conceiving sooner.
